I hope you are not wilting under the scorching summer heat! That’s right, I’ve been doing a lot of work outside, and I just thought someone should know. This is the last week of our compressed summer semester. It’s been a pleasure, #vizpoemers.

Instructional Content:

  1. Closing Thoughts
  2. Final exam review
  3. Popcorn Poems! (Activity Instructions, updated since the last round)
  4. Final Illustration Project

Task List:

  1. Monday, 7/9: View the content under “This Week” on the site banner menu for week eight, including the linked poems. I will refer to all of the poems from this week in my “Closing Thoughts” page, which will be up on Wednesday. Of special note for Monday will be the instructions for the weeklong “popcorn poems” activity.
  2. Tuesday, 7/10:  – Friday 7/13: Play a third round of Popcorn Poems! Check out the instructions on the page and then follow my prompt on 7/10. We’re composing heroic couplets this time, that is, iambic pentameter rhyming couplets (Alexander Pope, from “Essay on Criticism” — “True wit is nature to advantage dressed, / What oft was thought but never so well expressed.”)
  3. Wednesday 7/10: Read my instructional posts on Closing Thoughts and Final Exam Review, which will be posted by noon. Study for the exam while you complete your Final Illustration Project.
  4. Wednesday 7/12: Read my compendium of blog posts for the semester, to be found under the Recap link and tweeted to #vizpoem by 9am EDT.  Then check your personal blog and make sure you have all the entries completed. I will still accept posts from week 6 onward for partial credit.
  5. Wednesday 7/11: Read my illustration post about a poem by Seamus Heaney’s to be found under the Examples menu link, and tweeted to #vizpoem by end of day.
  6. Thursday, 7/12: After Friday 7/14 at 2pm you will be able to complete the final exam at a time and place of your choosing on the course Blackboard site, so long as you begin the exam before the end of the day on Wednesday 7/18. A warning: you must complete the exam in one sitting and within the time limit; you will also not be able to go back and change answers once you move on to the next question. Reserve three hours for yourself, although it may not take you the entire time to complete it. More details can be found on the Final Exam Review page.
